Used Pratt and Whitney 1830-90D Engine Core. QEC as removed from Zimbabwean Air Force C47. Includes engine mount, dishpan, exhaust, starter, generator, mags, carburetor, hydraulic pump and fuel pump. A little history on this R-1830, the engine was an American aircraft engine widely used in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Produced by Pratt and Whitney it is a 2 row, 14 cylinder, air-cooled radial design. A total of 172,618 R-1830 engines were built and from their use in two of the most produced aircraft ever built, the four-engine B-24 heavy bomber and the twin engine DC-3 transport, Grumman F4F Wilcat and Curtiss P-36, more Twin Wasps may have been built than any other aviation piston engine in history. Development began in 1929 by Pratt and Whitney, the advantages of the double-row power plant for aircraft was a larger displacement with no increase in frontal area, smaller cylinders could be used which permitted greater crank speeds creating smoother operation and the smaller more frequent power impulses further contributed to smoothness and longer engine life. Some design features were, increased fuel efficiency, automatic mixture control, automatic valve gear lubrication and patented pressure baffles for increased cooling.
